Most kids in Pag-asa Island in WPS want to be soldiers, cops, and Coast Guard men -- Ursabia
As youth residents of Pag-asa Island aspired to become law enforcers in the future, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. encouraged them “to study hard and be the future” for their community.
To help the students in their preparation for the upcoming school year, PCG personnel visited and delivered school supplies for Pag-asa Island youth in Kalayaan, Palawan on Tuesday, May 25.

According to Ursabia, he found out that most of the Pag-asa Island youth wanted to become soldiers, police officers, and Coast Guard personnel.
“Karamihan sa amin ay galing din sa mahirap at payak na pamumuhay. Kaya nga po kami pumasok sa serbisyo dahil gusto namin magkaroon ng mas maayos na buhay (Most of us also came from a simple life. That is why we entered the service because we want to have a better life),” Ursabia shared.
“Ngayon na pinalad kami na magkaroon ng mas maayos na buhay, obligasyon naman namin na makatulong sa mga nangangailangan (Now that we are blessed to have a good life, it is our obligation to help those in need), he added.
The PCG commandant encouraged the youth to study hard and focus on fulfilling their dreams for their community.

“Kayong mga kabataan, kayo ang makakapag-ahon sa Pag-asa Island. Gusto namin na mabigyan kayo ng maayos na edukasyon para paglaki ninyo, pwede kayong makapasok sa serbisyo. Nandito kami para maging realidad ang ambisyon ninyo dahil kayo ang magmamana ng Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, at iba pang sangay ng gobyerno (To the youth, you are the ones who will be the hope of the Pag-asa Island. We want to give you a good education so that when you grow up, you can enter the service. We are here to make your ambition a reality because you will inherit the Coast Guard, AFP, PNP, and other branches of government),” he said.
Meanwhile, Ursabia expressed gratitude to the members of PCG Auxiliary for their donations and support to provide assistance for the residents in the island.
He underscored that the humanitarian armed service will continue to help and give aid to the Pag-asa Island youth for the betterment of their future.
As part of the second phase of maritime exercises in the West Philippine Sea, personnel of the BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) and BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) have also conducted a coastal clean-up drive along the coast of Pag-asa Island on Saturday, May 22.
