A midwife helped a woman give birth on a pavement in Marikina City in the wee hours of Wednesday (May 26).
Rozendo Naupan, 24, and his wife Lobilla, 36, were on their way to a maternity clinic aboard a motorcycle when Lobilla's water broke around 2 a.m. in Barangay Nangka, Marikina.
“Pinark ko po ‘yung motor ko nung pumutok na ‘yung patubigan niya. Buti na lang po may dumaan na mga tanod kaya pinasamahan ko muna siya. Sinundo ko po ‘yung midwife sa clinic (I parked my motorcycle when her water broke. Thankfully, there were barangay watchmen who accompanied my wife. I left her for a while to fetch the midwife),” he recalled in a phone interview.
“Palabas na po ‘yung baby kaya doon na pinapanganak ang misis ko po. Doon na rin po pinutol ni Sir Arvin ‘yung umbilical cord (Our baby was already coming out so we had no choice but for her to give birth on the pavement. Sir Arvin also cut the umbilical cord there),” he added.
After the successful delivery, the mother and her son were brought to the maternity clinic.
The first-time father said he is very thankful to the midwife, Louis Arvin Lucas, and the watchmen of Barangay Nangka who helped deliver his first baby.
“Sobrang nagpapasalamat po ako sa kanila dahil maayos pong napanganank ang baby namin (I am very grateful to them for the successful delivery of our baby),” Naupan said.
The midwife and the Barangay Nangka watchmen earned praises on social media for helping the couple.
