Karen Davila on autistic teen who tried to grab a gun: 'Napakahirap paniwalaan'

"Unbelievable.'

This was the reaction of ABS-CBN broadcaster Karen Davila to the news that Edwin Arnigo, an 18-year-old with special needs, was shot after he allegedly attempted to grab the gun of a policeman during a raid on an illegal cockfight in Valenzuela.

"Sana katotohanan ang lumabas. Bilang ina ng batang nasa Autism Spectrum, napakahirap paniwalaan na mang-aagaw sila ng baril. Those in the autism spectrum are not able to 'advocate or fight for themselves' - what more fight a police officer?" tweeted Davila on May 26. (I hope the truth will be revealed. As a mother of a child in Autism Spectrum, it's hard to believe that they will grab the gun).

Davila's eldest son has special needs.

Arnigo was shot following a scuffle. He was brought to the Valenzuela Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A report by GMA News said that Arnigo's family were skeptical of the allegations made by police officers. They countered that Edwin could not have scuffled with cops because he was afraid of them.

"Hindi po 'yon totoo na nanlaban kasi 'yong anak ko po sobrang payat eh. Tapos 'yong pulis na bumaril sa kaniya, malaking tao po. Paano po makalaban 'yong anak ko?" said Helen Arnigo.
