Antipolo Cathedral offers online masses, novenas, processions for pilgrims of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage

ANTIPOLO CITY -- As many devotees of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, also known as the Our Lady of Antipolo, could not fulfill their annual vow of visiting the shrine housing the 17th century brown- skinned image of the Virgin Mary because of the quarantine restrictions, church activities during this pilgrimage season is just a click away, using one’s mobile phone or a computer with internet connection.

Father Reynante Tolentino, shrine rector at the National Shrine of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage said the present pandemic is not a hindrance to one’s desire to pay homage to the ‘Virgin of Antipolo’ even if one cannot be physically present in the Antipolo Cathedral during this season, regarded as the Jubilee Pilgrimage Season, as the daily Masses, praying of the rosary, novena, and even processions are streamed live on the official Facebook page of the cathedral, the Birhen ng Antipolo – Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage or on YouTube.

“Huwag po nating hayaan matigil ang ating debosyon sa Birhen ng Antipolo dahil lamang sa isang virus! Patuloy tayong mamintuho sa kanya sapagkat minamahal nya tayo at sinisinta bilang isang bayan (Don’t let the virus stop us from continuing our devotion to the Virgin of Antipolo! Let us continue to pay homage to her because she loves us),” Fr. Nante said, in a text message sent to Manila Bulletin.

Aside from the virtual viewing of the pilgrimage activities, devotees may also have the chance to see the pilgrim image of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Manila and Laguna until June 28, with the cathedral’s activity, the ‘Viaje Sa Kasaysayan ng Pananampalataya at Debosyon sa Birhen ng Antipolo’ in line with the Jubilee Pilgrimage Season 2021.

The official replica of the Virgin of Antipolo is currently in Manila and will stay in three parish churches until June 19 and will be brought to Binan, Laguna where it will stay until June 28, 2021.

Here is the schedule of the visit of the pilgrim image of the Virgin of Antipolo in Manila and Laguna:

Santa Cruz Church (Sta. Cruz, Manila) -- May 23, 2021 – June 1, 2021

Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish (Tondo, Manila) -- June 1, 2021 – June 10, 2021

Manila Cathedral (Intramuros, Manila) -- June 10, 2021 – June 19, 2021

Nuestra Señora dela Paz y Buenviaje Parish Biñan, Laguna -- June 19, 2021 – June 28, 2021

The original image of the Virgin of Antipolo, which is enshrined at the main altar of the cathedral was brought to Manila on July 18, 1626 aboard the galleon El Almirante from Mexico.

Every year, millions trek to Antipolo during the pilgrimage season. But since the start of the pandemic in 2020, the usual number of devotees who were able to visit the shrine decreased due to the government’s quarantine measures.
