43,480 COVID-19 quarantine rules violations recorded in NCR+ from May 15

A total of 43,480 healthy safety-related rules for coronavirus disease- 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported since Metro Manila and four adjacent provinces were placed under stricter quarantine status, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said Wednesday, May 26.

“So dapat talaga higpitan pa natin kasi ito (health protocol violations) ‘yung pinagmumulan ng (COVID-19) transmission (So we need to be strict in implementing this as it is the cause of the transmission),’’ Año said in an interview over GMA News.

The DILG chief added that the number of curfew violations reached 26,382 during the same period.

With the said figures, Año stressed the need for the concerted efforts of the law enforcers, government officials and other organizations to enforce the COVID-19 health protocols.

While there are stubborn individuals, Año observed that people tend to follow government safety and health regulations when being constantly reminded by authorities.

During the summer months, Año said people look for relief and de-stressing activities in the midst of the pandemic as swimming, parties, drinking sessions, cockfighting and basketball games still occur.

Comprising the areas of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal, NCR-plus will be under GCQ with heightened restrictions from May 15 to May 31, 2021.
