The ARMY wages a war against the music streaming platform

Spotify goes trending once again on social media after fans of BTS and Olivia Rose battle it out on the internet with a controversial debate on whether the streaming platform allegedly “sabotaged” the release of the South Korean group’s newest single “Butter.”
With a whopping 11.042 million streams on its first day, Butter by BTS breaks Spotify records internationally, beating the 2019 collab between Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care” (10.9 million).
Fans of BTS, a.k.a the ARMY, however, were not very happy with that result. A trending thread on Twitter says that the streaming platform had “not counted 47%” of the actual streams.
The tweet shows how much “filtered streams” Spotify had made. Many fans have urged for an investigation, after Spotify took three days to come up with data, which usually is available for public viewing real-time.
Twitter also serves as a battleground for fans of BTS and Fil-Am artist Olivia Rodrigo, after several fans of the Filipina started gathering hate towards the ARMY by urging everyone to stream Olivia’s debut album, which by the way was daringly released on the same day as BTS, to prevent “that song” (allegedly referring to the Korean artists’ “Butter”) from trending any further.
‘good 4 u’ by Olivia Rodrigo had about 12 million streams on Spotify on May 21, 2021. As of today, Butter by BTS has 200 million views on YouTube, 108 million of which came from its first streaming day also on May 21.
HYBE Entertainment has yet to release a statement on this matter.
Spotify and the side of Olivia Rodrigo are also keeping their mouths shut amid the allegations against them.
