Palace tells public: Be vaccinated with any brand, or get infected while waiting
Only medical frontliners were allowed to choose a COVID-19 vaccine brand, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said on Tuesday, May 25, as he reminded the public to get inoculated with any vaccine brand or get infected while waiting.

The Palace official said that no brand will be forced upon the public because of the rule of “informed consent.”
However, if an intended recipient of the vaccine refused to be inoculated while on the vaccination site because of the brand, that person will need to get “back to the end of the line.”
“That’s only fair. Ang binigyan lang po natin ng pagkakataon na mamili ang mga health frontliners natin (We only gave the chance to choose to our health frontliners),” Roque said.
The spokesperson explained that everyone will have a chance to get vaccinated but if they are going to choose, they might have to wait for a long time.
“Sana po ay hindi kayo maunahan nang mas nakakahawang mga mutants ng coronavirus habang naghihintay ng gusto ninyong brand (Hopefully, the more transmissible mutant of the coronavirus will not get to you first while you’re waiting for the brand that you want),” Roque said.
Reports of Filipinos lining up to get the United States’ Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine made the rounds on social media. Earlier, President Duterte castigated the public for preferring US-made vaccines, saying that all vaccines are proven effective.

He, however, chose also a different brand of vaccine, China’s Sinopharm, which only has a compassionate use permit in the Philippines.
The latest survey showed Filipinos preferring US-made vaccines but when it comes to the brand of vaccine, China’s Sinovac trumped Pfizer-BioNTech by a few percentage points.
