Go stresses need to improve coordination among law enforcement agencies

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Tuesday, May 25, underscored the need to improve coordination among law enforcement agencies after separate drug buy-bust operations of the Novaliches police station drug enforcement unit and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) almost led to another misencounter in Quezon City last week.

“Nagkaroon po ng, almost misencounter noong nakaraang linggo na naman po. ‘Yon po ang masakit doon. Full support tayo sa kanila — full support tayo sa PNP, full support tayo sa PDEA, lahat po ng funding requirements nila, lahat po ng operational requirements nila ay sinusuportahan po natin (An almost misencounter happened again last week. That was unfortunate. We fully support them — we fully support the PNP, we alsao fully support the PDEA, we support all their funding and operational requirements),” Go, said during the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs' hearing on the February 24 shootout between policemen and PDEA agents.

"Sana po huli na po iyon, mga misencounter na nangyayari (I hope this is the last incident of misencounter),” he added.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and PDEA were previously involved in a misencounter on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on February 24. Two police officers, a PDEA agent and an informant were killed in the incident.

“Importante po dito ang koordinasyon dahil puro naman ‘yan magkakakilala. So dapat ang close coordination between law enforcement agencies ay paigtingin pa po (Coordination is important here since most of them know each other. The close coordination between law enforcement agencies must be intensified),” Go said.

He said that President Duterte himself has expressed his concern over the incidents.

“Pinakamasakit sa kanya, itong mismong mga law enforcement agencies pa natin (It was really painful for him to see that our law enforcement agencies are the ones involved),” Duterte's long-time aide said.

Go said he is positive that the Congress would come up with measures preventing such incidents from happening again.
