COVID-19 cases of Filipinos in a European country increase

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday reported a huge increase in the numbers of new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and new recoveries among overseas Filipinos with 143 and 130, respectively.

In a report, the DFA said the increase in the number of cases and recoveries is due to an “updated report” from a country in Europe whose name was not disclosed due to privacy issues. These new numbers bring the total of confirmed COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos to 18,840.

Of the total, 11,560 have recovered, 6,112 are under treatment and 1,168 died due to coronavirus infections.

The Middle East and Africa remain as the region with the most numbers in all categories, namely total confirmed cases (10,473); recoveries (5,913), undergoing treatment (3,796), and fatalities (764).

The Asia and the Pacific registered 3,863 total cases followed by Europe with 3,520 and the Americas with 984. In terms of death among overseas Filipinos, the Americas ranked second to Middle East/Africa with 242, Europe with 130, and Asia and the Pacific with 32.
