The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) has opened a new component school that prioritizes the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and educators' professional development.

In a statement, Ateneo President Fr. Roberto C. Yap SJ said the Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design (GBSEALD) was named "in recognition of the extraordinary donation from the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) to establish the GBF Endowment for Education Innovation."
According to Ateneo, the endowment will be used to further GBSEALD's three strategic goals: capacity building, knowledge building, and influence.
The first goal focuses on high-quality teacher education, teacher training and leadership development, particularly in STEM, literacy, critical thinking, and Catholic education.
The second goal is for research to aid educational policy and the improvement of pedagogies and educational systems.
Meanwhile, the third goal covers strategic partnerships with educational institutions, government, and the private sector on issues in Philippine education reform.
The endowment also provides for the establishment of the Lily Gokongwei Ngochua Leadership Academy which will be offering leadership development programs for education leaders, such as principals in the public education sector.
