Mayor Isko, Vice Mayor Honey register to PhilSys

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan led the registration to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) at the Universidad de Manila on Monday (May 24).

Domagoso said that through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) system, the database of Filipinos in the country will become organized and will give them easier access to government services.

"I'm very excited for myself and for every Filipino especially yung mga taga Maynila. Alam niyo naman na itong mga nagdaang taon at buwan ay naging malaking hamon sa gobyerno mapa-national or local ang talagang kalingain ang lahat sapagkat sa kalituhan ng database or kaya mga masalimuot na database at maruming database (The people of Manila, you all know that these past few years and months, the government had a hard time in helping Filipinos due to the incomplete and disorganized database)," he said.

"The PhilSys will provide a valid proof of identification to Filipinos and resident aliens and an easier access to financial, social protection, health, education, and other government services," Domagoso added.

The system uses a person's unique biometric information to authenticate identity, according to PSA.

Domagoso said this will also help the national government in identifying those who are in need.

PSA personnel explained to Domagoso that all the data given to the PhilSys will only be used by the agency to protect a person's privacy.

"Panatag ako na tatakbo ang sistema na ako ay protektado din ang aking privacy later on because yung sarili ko isinumite ko sa ahensya na meron ding pananagutan later on kapag nagpabaya sila (I'm assured that this system will operate with my privacy protected because I submitted my information to an agency that will be held liable if it neglects its duty)," Domagoso said.

He also urged the public to apply for the PhilSys by saying: "Hinihikayat ko ang lahat na tayo ay magsama-sama, hindi lang Manileno kundi bawat Pilipino, para later on kapag may mga gumawa ng kalokohan, madali natin silang mahahanap (I urged everyone to band together so we can easily pinpoint later on those who committed wrongdoings)."
