A Filipino seafarer with Indian variant has succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire revealed this in a virtual forum on Monday, May 23.
"For the crew members of MV Athens Bridge, among the four confined, one died last week. I think that was Friday. The three others are already recovering while still at the hospital," she said.
The DOH did not provide any other details, except that the seafarer is a male patient, who has a present address in Parañaque City.
The seafarer was one of the nine crew members of the MV Athens Bridge who were detected to be carrying the COVID-19 Indian variant.
Four were admitted at a hospital while the other five were sent to an isolation facility.
"The rest of the crew members are already tagged as recovered and are set to be released to their local government units, where they will continuously be monitored," Vergeire said.
