'Not yet out of the woods': DOH reminds public to remain vigilant vs COVID-19

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday,May 24 reminded the public to remain vigilant following the continued threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said although the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, especially in the National Capital Region are going down, "we are not out of the woods yet."

"While we are seeing that cases are going down, we are not out of the woods yet," she said in a virtual forum.

"The virus is still here and the cases may still increase," added Vergeire.

The Health official issued the reminder following the reported pool party and drinking session in Quezon City which turned out to be a super-spreader event.

"Let us continue to avoid such happenings because the virus is still here and the probability of transmission is still present," Vergeire said.

"Let's be vigilant and remain to be in your own family bubble," she added.

Vergeire said NCR still has a seven-day moving average of 1,226 cases which is still a far cry from the seven-day moving average of 430 cases in January and February.

"The trend is going down but it is not yet as fast as we want it to be," she said.
