Clean sweep: BTS wins in all 4 categories at 2021 Billboard Music Awards

K-pop idol group and Grammy nominee BTS made a clean sweep at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs).

BTS won in all the four categories that they were nominated in: Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Social Artist (Fan Voted) and Top Selling Song for “Dynamite.”

The Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist and Top Social Artist (Fan Voted) were announced ahead of the BBMAs live ceremony while Top Selling Song was announced during the show, which started at 8 p.m. ET on May 23 (8 a.m. on May 24 in the Philippines).

“Thank you BBMA for the Top Selling Song Award, which is amazing and huge. It's really an honor to be the winner of such a significant title. We wanted to share some fresh energy with everyone through 'Dynamite.’ We think this award has proved that we achieved that. So a big thank you, I love you and bless,” said RM as BTS received the award in South Korea.

“Thank you for loving our music and thanks for the awards we won tonight,” said Jin.

Other nominees for the Top Selling Song were Gabby Barrett ft. Charlie Puth, “I Hope”; Cardi B ft. Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP”; Megan Thee Stallion, “Savage”; and The Weeknd, “Blinding Lights.”

For the fifth consecutive year, BTS bagged the BBMAs Top Social Artist award, winning the award in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

“Top Social Artist for five years in a row. Thank you ARMY and BBMAs for such an incredible title” said J-Hope in a video as BTS accepted the award.

Suga added, “Let’s continue to stay connected as always” and BTS said, “ARMY, we love you.”

Other nominees for Top Social Artist this year were BLACKPINK, Ariana Grande, SB19 and Seventeen.

This is the second time that BTS bagged the Top Duo/Group award, winning it first in 2019. Other nominees this year were AC/DC, AJR, Dan + Shay and Maroon 5.

BTS won their first Top Song Sales Artist award, edging out Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd.
On the show, BTS will be making their first performance of their new single “Butter,” which set new records for biggest music video Premiere with over 3.9 million peak concurrent and most watched music video in the first 24 hours of release on YouTube with 108.2 million views.
