A backhoe driver was killed after being buried alive at a quarry site in Salaan, a town in Zamboanga’s east coast, at around noontime on Sunday, May 23.
Investigation showed that 40-year-old Melvin Cabayacruz Andico was operating a backhoe when a portion of the hill collapsed.
Andico was trapped in the driver’s seat and buried by tons of soil and debris.
Zamboanga Police and village officials immediately launched a rescue operation to help Andico but failed.
Andico’s body was retrieved at 2:46 p.m. that same afternoon.
