Tolentino urges DOH to publicize accounting of vaccine supply for transparency purposes

Senator Francis Tolentino on Sunday urged the Department of Health (DOH) to publicize its accounting of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine supplies that have been administered to promote transparency.

Tolentino said that while he believes that each individual has the right to choose which vaccine brand to take, the agency should provide the public updates of which brands are left available for distribution.

“Wala naman tayong sapat na stocks ng reserve (na bakuna) para sabihin na ‘ano ba ang gusto mo’? So kung ano lang ang nandito (We don’t have enough reserved stocks of vaccine to allow the patients to choose. We have whatever is available),” Tolentino said in an interview over Radio DZRH.

“So hinihiling ko sa DOH dapat gawin public, gawin transparent, i-publish sa dyaryo ang dami ng nabakunahan ng first dose, second dose at ang balance pa ng bakunang natitira para maliwanag (So I’m asking DOH to make it public, transparent and publish it in the newspapers how many people have received the first and second dose and the remaining vaccines, to make it clear to the people),” he added.

Tolentino said informing the people of the number of vaccines and the brands available would help them understand and make informed decisions on what to do should they opt to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Kung nandyan na siguro yung bakuna at naging transparent yun bilang ng nabakunahan, ilan pa ang mga natitirang supply, eh siguro madaling mag desisyon yung ating mga kababayan kung talagang sila ay magpapabakuna na (If the vaccines are already here and they were transparent about the number of people who got the jabs, and how many supplies are there, I think our people can easily decide then when they should get vaccinated),” he said.

“Kasi baka ngayon name-misinterpret nila nakatago lang yung ganitong bakunang gusto nila. Pwedeng pumili pa (Because they might misinterpret that the government is hiding their preferred vaccine),”

“Pero kung malalaman nila na ang natitirang bakuna ay ito (But if they are informed that these are the only ones left) Sinovac: 500,000, Pfizer 10,000, Moderna and Johnson, mas madali siguro sa kaisipan nila (they can easily decide),” he pointed out.

Likewise, Tolentino said, the DOH should also include in its information campaign, which of the vaccines are about to expire.
