Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has warned residents against organizing large social gatherings that may cause COVID-19 outbreaks in the city.

This warning was issued by the mayor after learning that 51 attendees of an improvised pool party and drinking session in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon tested positive for the dreaded disease.

“Lahat ng mga mapapatunayang lumabag sa ating guidelines at mga ordinansa lalo na ‘yung mga nagkukumpulan at nag-iinuman o nagka-karaoke ay iisyuhan ng ordinance violation receipt (OVR) at maaaring makasuhan sa ilalim ng RA 11332 (All of those who will be proven guilty of breaking our guidelines and ordinances, especially those congregating, having a drinking binge or singing Karaoke, will be given ordinance violation receipts and may face charges under RA 11332),” said Belmonte.

Belmonte said residents must not be complacent, and must always follow the minimum health and safety protocols at all times in order not to get infected with COVID-19.

Per the report of the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU), 610 residents were swabbed due to the “superspreader” event.

Meanwhile, the CESU noted that 18 individuals are still awaiting their results while 31 residents are already admitted to several of the city's HOPE facilities.

The local government said the community was placed under lockdown since May 14.

“We encourage the public to take photos and videos whenever possible, and report to us by calling our Hotline 122. We assure them that we will take swift action as this is a matter of protecting the health and safety of the whole city,” the mayor said.Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has warned residents against organizing large social gatherings that may cause COVID-19 outbreaks in the city.
