How did Celine Pialago celebrate her 30th birthday?

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago is not one to break coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related health protocols, even on her special day.

That's why, on her 30th birthday Saturday, May 22, she opted to "hide" in Iba, Zambales where she was supposedly safe from any kind of party or big gathering wherein social distancing would just be an afterthought.

"Bawal party, bawal lahat ng uri ng celebration kahit birthday pa yan lalo na habang tayong lahat ay nasa ilalim ng community quarantine (Even if it's your birthday, any kind of party or celebration is prohibited, especially since we're still under a community quarantine)," Pialago wrote in a Facebook post.

"Kaya naman for the meantime nagtago muna ako dito sa farm (That’s why, for the meantime, I hid here in the farm), she said. Proud of her age, she threw in the hashtag #CERTIFIEDTRENTA for good measure.

But crossing to another decade in life is still worth commemorating in some fashion. That's probably why the MMDA spokesperson sounded excited to hold what she called "post birthday relief operations" on Sunday, May 23, in several parts of Metro Manila.

For the past few years, Pialago has been carrying out donation drives for lesser fortunate Filipinos under the Malasakit Movement, which she founded.

The group recently stepped up its efforts too, as seen with the support that it has given to the various community pantries that are helping feed a lot of people amid the hardships caused by the pandemic.

To always help the needy might just be the way to age gracefully, then.
