Bren Esports parts ways with all-female Dota 2 roster

After making a mark in the esports community, Bren Esports released its all-female Dota 2 team.

The Bernard "Bren" Chong-owned organization made the announcement through its official Facebook page on Saturday night, May 22.

"The ride may have been a bit bumpy, but our Dota 2 team definitely made a statement in the scene. Thank you so much for striving to be on par with the best teams in the country," the team said in a statement.

"Let's wish them success on the next path that they will be taking. All the best!"

The team was composed of captain-position four support Johanna "Ligaya" Sta. Maria, carry Gillanne "Gill" Lumberio, offlaner Hazel "Hezelya" Mata and midlaner Meeri "Meeri" Mindajao.

Ligaya and the girls along with Singaporean hard support stand-in Tan “Jia” Jiahui claimed the championship crown in the 2021 Female Esports League (FSL) Dota 2 Open with a 2-1 reverse sweep over Thailand's Foxy Gaming earlier this month.

Bren kept the FSL trophy at the hands of a Filipino team as it bested 12 other all-girls squads in the SEA region.

The black and yellow esports organization also made a resounding statement about gender equality in the professional esports scene when it fielded its all-female Dota 2 roster in The Nationals Season 2 late last year.

Back then, the squad still had midlaner Princess “Jaina” Pagsisihan instead of Meeri and hard support Kat “Katt” Arcillas.

Prior to The Nationals, Bren ruled the Liga Adarna Dota 2 tournament after dethroning Pacific Pink with a 2-1 stunner in the grand finals in September 2020.
