The Department of Health (DOH) said it has seen a decline in the daily new COVID-19 cases in the Greater Manila Area, also known as NCR-plus.

"Nakita natin yung patuloy na pagbaba ng mga kaso dito sa NCR-Plus bubble. Dati we are ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 cases here, ngayon po nasa 1,500 plus nalang po ang mga kaso sa NCR Plus bubble (We have seen the continuous decrease in cases here in the NCR-Plus bubble. We used to be ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 cases, now there are only 1,500 plus cases in the NCR Plus bubble)," said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Saturday, May 22.
This is the effect of the previous imposition of stricter quarantine level, she said. However, Vergeire said that they observed a spike in cases in some areas of the country.
A “positive growth rate” was observed in the regions of Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos), Bangsamora Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) and Bicol, the DOH reported last May 18.
"Nakikita din natin na tumataas naman po ang mga kaso sa ibang lugar dito sa ating bansa. Kaya po we are continuously monitoring and trying to give them assistance para sila naman po ang bigyan natin ng focus at maprevent din po natin ang patuloy na pagtaas ng mga kaso (We also see that the number of cases is increasing in other areas here in our country. That is why we are continuously monitoring and trying to give them assistance to prevent the continuous increase of cases)," said Vergeire.
