13,000 learning support aides hired nationwide - DepEd
Around 13,000 learning support aides (LSAs) have been hired nationwide for the country’s implementation of the blending learning program amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Education said Saturday, May 22.

DepEd Undersecretary for Planning, Human Resource and Organizational Development Jesus L.R. Mateo said they have tapped the services of 13,000 LSAs for the agency’s continued implementation of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan in the time of COVID-19 (BE-LCP).

"So far, mga 13,000 yung ating nahire na ating mga learning support aides. Ang composition nito ay yung mga displaced teachers from private schools kasi may 500 na pribadong paaralan na hindi nagbukas (So far, we have about 13,000 learning support aides. Its composition is the displaced teachers from private schools because there are 500 private schools that have closed down),” he said in an interview over DZBB.
"Ang nahire na non-displaced personnel o learning support aides ay mga 11,508 for a total of about 13,000 (The number of non-displaced personnel or learning support aides is about 11,508 for a total of about 13,000),” Mateo noted.
He said the funding allocation for the hiring of LSAs is not only shouldered by DepEd, but also by the local governments.
“Ang pagpopondo po nito hindi lang ang kagawaran kasama po dito ang lokal na pamahalaan, may nagvolunteer rin po at mga partners at gusto ko lang message dito sa sinasabi natin ay ginagawa natin, binabalik natin ang bayanihan spirit ng mga Pilipino (The funding is not only allocated by the department but also by the local government, there are also volunteers and partners and I just want to convey the message here is what we say we are saying, we are reliving the bayanihan spirit of the Filipinos),” he said.
The engagement of Learning Support Aides in all public elementary and secondary schools including senior high schools, in School Year (SY) 2020-2021 is guided by DepEd Order No. 32, s. 2020 or the Guidelines on the Engagement of Services of Learning Support Aides to Reinforce the Implementation of the BE-LCP.
