11K teachers vaccinated vs COVID-19 - DepEd exec
Around 11,000 public school teachers have already been vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Education (DepEd) said Saturday, May 22.
DepEd Undersecretary for Planning, Human Resource and Organizational Development Jesus L.R. Mateo said based on the latest information they received, more or less 11,000 teachers have been inoculated, citing that the vaccination "is ongoing.”

“Mayrooon na po tayong mga higit kumulang na kung hindi ako nagkakamali parang 11,000 na po ang nabakunahan ayon po ito sa prioritization pero may mga ongoing pa ho (We already have about 11,000 people who, if I'm not mistaken, have been vaccinated according to the prioritization, the vaccination is ongoing),” he said in an interview over DZBB.
He said while the vaccination of teachers would depend on the jab supply, the DepEd is not remiss in ensuring that the education frontliners are included in the priority list.
"Pero syempre ho depende yan sa supply ng vaccine pero inaassure po namin na kasama sa prayoridad ang ating mga guro (But it always depends on the supply of vaccine but we assure that our teachers are included in the priority),” Mateo said.
He noted that it was through the efforts of DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones that public school teachers are included in A4 priority sector in the country’s inoculation program.
During the Laging Handa public briefing on Thursday, May 20, DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla confirmed that "the teachers, all government frontliners who are our employees are now in the A4.”
The DepEd had urged its employees to register to their respective local government units (LGUs) so their vaccination against COVID-19 can be processed in time for their turn in the government’s priority list.
