Show of force: PH Coast Guard flaunts floating, aerial assets in Manila Bay

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has exhibited its floating and aerial assets to the new members of the PCG Auxiliary Executive Squadron off Manila Bay waters.

PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. said the exhibition was held to boost the morale of the Coast Guard units that are working to uphold the safety of lives and properties at sea, especially in times of emergency.

“The successful conduct of the capability demonstration proved that Coast Guardians continue to live up to the Latin phrase, ‘semper paratus’ which means ‘always ready’ in performing their duties and responsibilities for the nation,” Ursabia said in a statement released on Thursday, May 20.

The exhibition was conducted as the new members of the PCG Auxiliary Executive Squadron took their oath before Ursabia at the PCG National Headquarters in Manila last Monday, May 17.

The new PCG Auxilliary members include Samar Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento, Zambales Rep. Cheryl Deloso-Montalla, Northern Samar Gov. Edwin Ongchuan, National Youth Commission (NYC) Commissioner Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema, and Rep. Ducielle Marie Cardema of the Duterte Youth Party-list and Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on National Defense and Security.

They were promoted to the rank of Commodore, or equivalent to Brigadier General in the military.

The Coast Guard said the new members of the PCG Auxiliary were committed to assist the humanitarian armed service in the performance of its mandates, most especially in the conduct of humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.

Under the PCG Auxiliary Manual 2012, the PCG Auxiliary Executive Squadron shall be composed of individuals whose position and influence in the society could support the Coast Guard in the attainment of its mission, under the supervision of the PCG Commandant.
