Comelec receives more than 3 million applications for voter registration

More than 3 million applications for voter registration have already been received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the May 2022 national and local polls.

Data released by the poll body on Thursday, May 20 showed 3,483,298 voter registration applications were filed from Jan. 20, 2020 to May 15, 2021.

More than 578,000 applications were filed from January to March 2020 prior to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The other 2,904,347 applications were filed between September 2020 to May 2021 amid the pandemic.

As to the types of applications, new applications for registration has 1,493,417; transfer from other municipality with 765,461; transfer within the same municipality with 169,648; and transfer with reactivation with 32,909.

The rest transfer with reactivation and correction of entries with 12,636; transfer with correction of entries with 41,169; reactivation with 142,199; and reactivation with correction of entries with 42,489; change of name/correction of entries with 193,703; inclusion of record in the book of voters with 284; reinstatement of name in the list of voters with 106; and transfer from overseas voting with 10,326.

Voter registration, including satellite registration, and the issuance of voter's certification resumed in all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOS) in the National Capital Region (NCR) and nearby provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Cavite (NCR-plus) and other provinces and cities which have been recently placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) May 17.

The Comelec said applications may be filed a the OEO from Mondays to Fridays, or in satellite registration sites on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voter registration period for the May 2022 national and local polls will run until Sept. 30, 2021.
