Laguna governor appeals to IATF to allow the reopening of resorts

LAGUNA - Governor Ramil L. Hernandez is requesting the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to allow the reopening of resorts in the province.

A staff member from the Governor's Office told the Manila Bulletin that Hernandez wrote a letter of appeal to the IATF which was sent on Wednesday (May 19).

In a Facebook post, Hernandez said he knows how the pandemic has affected the livelihood of workers in the tourism sector. He said he is waiting for a response to his appeal.

On Tuesday (May 18), operators, caretakers, and tour agents of hot spring resorts in Barangay Pansol, Calamba put up signages saying that they're going hungry amid the prolonged closure of resorts and called for the reopening of tourism in the area.

For the second consecutive year, they’re not allowed to operate during the dry months – considered to be their peak season – due to community quarantine protocols.

The Calamba local government unit has already appealed to the IATF to consider allowing the operation of its hot spring resorts.

Aside from Calamba, there are resorts in other parts of the province, including Los Baños, Lumban, Majayjay, Nagcarlan, Pagsanjan, and San Pablo.
