PCG District North Eastern Mindanao Commander Commodore Luisito Sibayan said Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada has permitted the Coast Guard to occupy 70 percent of the building’s second floor to boost the maritime law enforcement in the region.
"Having our regional office in the area will also allow us to intensify the mobilization of our assets, specifically in responding to maritime incidents and natural calamities," Sibayan said.
The Coast Guard commander has also inspected the building to identify the necessary renovation and repair last Wednesday, April 26.
"We will also be able to improve our monitoring of seagoing vessels to uphold maritime security and maritime safety as the center is located near major seaports, such as the Masao International Port, the Nasipit Port, and the Butuan Port," Sibayan added.
The PCG said the resumption of nationwide recruitment has yet to be finalized, “pending on the approval of budget for addition personnel from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).”
