Pasig City chosen as pilot city for new contact tracing system

Pasig City has been chosen as the pilot city for the new contact tracing system created by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Aboitiz Foundation.

Dubbed as Project Connect, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and officials from Aboitiz Foundation showed how the new system works and how it will make contact tracing efforts easier and more efficient.

"Project Connect is initiated by NEDA, made possible by the data analytics team of AIM-SITE, powered by the Aboitiz Foundation, and is currently being pilot tested with our team in Pasig," Sotto said in his Facebook post Wednesday.

"The project connects covid testing data (DOH CBMS system) to our contact tracing app (PasigPass). An algorithm then helps identify and notify close contacts automatically," he added.

The mayor said that before, Pasig's contact tracing efforts has been difficult and its 190 contact tracers are often overloaded. But through Project Connect, the city's contact tracing efforts will further improve and be much faster due to the real time data collection and fast dissemination of information to close contacts of a COVID-19 patient.
