Over 30,000 Filipinos receive 1st dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine

A total of 30,115 eligible individuals were able to receive their first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday, May 19.

There are a total of 96,500 individuals who can access the country’s initial supply of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, which were donated by the COVAX facility, said DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje.

“We had a total of 193,000 doses of Pfizer divided by 2 yan kasi nag sigurado na tayo ng second dose (We had a total of 193,000 doses of Pfizer divided by two because we are already securing the second dose),” said Cabotaje.

“The vaccination started last weekend. We target to finish by next week or first week of June,” she added.

Meanwhile, Cabotaje said that the two million AstraZeneca vaccines were already distributed in the different vaccination sites.

The DOH previously reported that 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca are expiring in June, while the rest will expire in July.

“Jabbing is ongoing for these AstraZeneca vaccines. Our target is to administer by June 15 those expiring on June 30, and by July 15 for those expiring on July 31,” said Cabotaje.

“We are coordinating with LGUs for them to prioritize using AstraZeneca. We will monitor them to ensure that they will be used before their expiration,” she added.
