Comelec urges IATF to prioritize election personnel for COVID-19 vaccination
An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that poll workers should be prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination in order to meet the poll agency's voter registration target before September.

"May panawagan po kami sa last meeting, na mag-request na iakyat-akyat yung classification namin. Kasi A4.15 kami (We are requesting that our classification be upgraded because we are listed under A4.15 )," said Commissioner Rowena Guanzon in an interview over ABS-CBN TeleRadyo on Wednesday, May 19.
The poll official said that this will help them expand their satellite voter registration activities.
"Ang panawagan po namin sa mga mayor at sa IATF (Interagency Task Force) kung pwede po i-prioritize nyo naman ang election personnel namin sa Comelec para maka-barangay satellite registration na po kami (Our call to the mayors and the IATF--- if possibly, prioritize our election personnel in the Comelec so that we can do barangay satellite registration)," she said.
"Kailangan pasukin po talaga ang barangay. Pagpasok mo sa barangay...hindi ka vaccinated that's a very high risk sa tao namin (We need to go to barangays...but if our personnel are not vaccinated, that's a very high risk for our people)," she added.
As of now, individuals under the A1 to A3 categories are allowed to be vaccinated against COVID-19. These are healthcare workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.
The Department of Health (DOH) said that the national government is set to allow the vaccination of A4 priority group "as soon as the supply of vaccines is sufficient."
"Ang target namin ngayon five million pa. So hanggang September 30 paano ba namin gagawin iyan (Our target is still at five million. So until September 30, how are we going to do that)?," said Guanzon.
"Kailangan po sa election natin, kailangan po ang registration talaga kasi ang turnout, ako personally, ang tingin ko bababa talaga. Ang national average natin sa turnout last election is 70 percent, mataas po yun (In our election, registration is needed because I think the turnout will really go down. Our national average of turnout during the last election was at 70 percent and that's high)," she added.
As of May 14, the Comelec received 3,453,196 voter registration applications so far---from January 2020 to May 13, 2021.
