
The Department of Health (DOH) detected 4,700 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s total number of active infections to more than 49,000.
Active COVID-19 cases nationwide are currently at 49,951. Of these cases, 92.8 percent have mild symptoms, 2.2 percent have no symptoms, 2.1 percent are severe, 1.5 percent are in critical condition, and 1.36 percent are in moderate condition.
The Philippines overall tally of cases stood at 1,159,071, the DOH said in its latest case bulletin on Wednesday, May 19.
The death toll jumped to 19,507, accounting for 1.68 percent of the total case count, after 136 more patients died.
Meanwhile, the recovery count increased to 1,089,613 with 6,986 more survivors..
The DOH also announced that a total of 3,299,470 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered nationwide, wherein 17 percent or 786,528 people have completed their two doses. It encouraged the public to get vaccinated against the viral illness.
“The government assures the public that vaccination is free for all,” the DOH said.
“The DOH reminds the public to get vaccinated when it’s their turn by registering with their LGUs. Moreover, strict adherence to the minimum public health standards should still be observed even with the increased vaccination rate of the country,” it added.
