UP prof thanks PGH donors: 'Your help fed every patient'
A professor from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine (UPCM) thanked all the donors who sent in-kind and cash donations to the fire-hit Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
In a series of tweets, Dr. Jay Germar expressed gratitude to those who helped feed every patient, bantay (watcher), healthcare worker, and support staff following the fire that razed the third floor of the state-run hospital.
"Our patients needed the comfort. We needed the hug. And hug us you did. The food donations kept pouring in, and when we would almost run out, a donation comes in," Germar wrote.
"Thank you to the OB residents, interns, and clerks for the tireless help. To our donors, we hope to get to thank each and every one of you. We can never thank you enough for feeding our soul."
Germar also lauded the "bravery, selflessness, and strength" of PGH staff.
"The last thing PGH needed was another incident. Fire hit us and we had to evacuate patients in this pandemic," she added.
"The feeling was familiar though, and you realize it's the PGH spirit. People just kept going, focusing on the work that needed to be done. People just kept asking what needs to be done."
The blaze, which broke out on the third floor of the hospital early Sunday morning, forced patients to evacuate and transfer hospitals.
On Monday, May 17, PGH Director Dr. Gap Legaspi said the fire was possibly caused by faulty electrical wiring or circuit breaker.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the fire.
