PCG delivers P5.7M worth of medical supplies for frontliners in several provinces

Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have assisted the United States military service in delivering nearly P5.7 million worth of donated medical supplies for frontliners in provinces across the country in a move to help curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In an advisory on Tuesday, May 18, the US Embassy in the Philippines said the US military service members have coordinated with the PCG's BRP Gabriela Silang crew members to support the ongoing transportation of medical supplies across the country.

The donations are composed of protective equipment such as disposable gloves, goggles, face shields, and disinfectant spray among others.

The US Embassy said the supplies are set to distribute to rural health units and municipal health offices in Cagayan, National Capital Region, Palawan, Zambales, Sarangani, and Zamboanga City.

Meanwhile, PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia has extended his appreciation for the continuous donations received.

“It’s the genuine concern shown through consistent efforts that matters to us Filipinos. Your generosity to equip our frontliners since the start of pandemic transcends service to humanity and we are far beyond grateful,” Ursabia said in a statement.

According to the embassy, the US has provided nearly P1.3 billion donations to support the country’s COVID-19 response.
