Lipa eyed as PFL training site

The city of Lipa in Batangas is being eyed a possible training site for clubs in the Philippines Football League.

Officials from the PFL and the Games and Amusements Board underwent an ocular inspection of the Aboitiz Pitch, which hosted most of the PFL and Copa Paulino Alcantara matches in 2019.

PFL commissioner Coco Torre confirmed that Aboitiz is being eyed by clubs since Batangas is currently under a more-relaxed General Community Quarantine.

“Some clubs are planning to train there because of their quarantine status. But of course subject to approval of the LGU,” Torre said.

Metro Manila and provinces inside NCR Plus, namely Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Bulacan, are under GCQ but with “heightened restrictions,” meaning that some guidelines were tightened which may prevent PFL clubs from training in the said areas.

The PFL is eyeing a mid-July opening, but defending champion United City and Kaya-Iloilo are scheduled to start their campaigns earlier on the international scene.

United City will see action in the AFC Champions League group stage while Kaya will face Australia’s Brisbane Roar in the preliminary round of the said competition.

Kaya is also assured of a spot in the AFC Cup in the event it fails to get into the main stage of the Champions League.
