PGH to resume accepting COVID-19 patients on May 18

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is expected to resume accepting patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday, May 18, after the hospital was hit by a fire over the weekend.

PGH director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi said they have temporarily suspended receiving COVID-19 patients for one day to remove the remaining smell of the smoke that reached the hospital’s COVID wards.

“So itong araw lang na ‘to baka makakalipat na ang mga pasyente (So this is the day that patients can move) but by tomorrow, we will resume accepting COVID patients to PGH,” Legaspi said in a public briefing on Monday, May 17.

“So wala pong malaking pagbabago except iyong isang araw na paghahanda lang ulit (So there is no big change except for that one day preparation),” he added.

The hospital director said he has asked Health Undersecretary and treatment czar Leopoldo Vega for a one-day reprieve in receiving COVID-19 patients to complete the clean up of COVID wards.

“So kini-clear up namin iyong mga areas na may amoy pa ng usok bago namin punuin pa ng pasyente (So we are clearing up areas that still smell of smoke before we fill it up with patient),” he said.

Legaspi assured that PGH will continue to render medical services to its patients, especially that the hospital serves as a major COVID referral center for virus-hit patients in Metro Manila.

“We stand committed with our role as COVID referral center,” he said.
