Mayor Zamora receives second Sinovac jab

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora is now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as he received on Saturday his second dose of the Sinovac vaccine.

Zamora first received his COVID-19 shot last April 16 after the Department of Health (DOH) released a new advisory stating that those who have tested positive can get vaccinated after recovery. The previous protocol stated that recovered individuals must wait for 90 days before they can be vaccinated against the virus.

The mayor tested positive for COVID-19 last March 1 and went on quarantine at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) to avoid transmitting the virus to others and to his family especially to his wife who is a cancer survivor.

Zamora recovered from the virus on March 15 and immediately reported back to his office.

Zamora said the city received a total of 11,700 vaccines from Pfizer, 12,000 vaccines from AstraZeneca, and 10,000 vaccines from Sinovac. As of May 15, the city has already vaccinated over 16,000 residents.

The mayor said that the city is now inoculating 1,500 people per day from the previous 600 to 800 per day due to the increase in the supply of vaccines in the city.

Zamora said that this number can be further increased to 2,000 individuals per day.
