DOH open to Robredo's 'vaccine cab' project

The Department of Health (DOH) said it is open to the idea of Vice President Leni Robredo of having "vaccine cabs" as it may help in accommodating more people in the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination program.

"Kung ano ang mga rekomendasyon ay ating pinag-aaralan iyan, kung ito ay acceptable or hindi. By having this kind of mobile na mga vaccination sites, maaring mag increase yung speed and scale ng ating pagbabakuna (We are studying whatever recommendation there is, whether it is acceptable or not. By having this kind of mobile vaccination sites, we can increase the speed and scale of our vaccination)," said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire during an online press briefing on Monday, May 17.

Vergeire, however, said that the mobile vaccination centers should first be compliant "to specific standards that we need to set."

"Kasi ngayon yung ating standards only applies to facilities, wala pa tayo nung mobile vans talaga (Right now, our standards only apply to facilities, we don't have for mobile vans yet)," said the DOH spokesperson.

"Kailangan pag aralan maigi kasi yung number one na konsiderasyon sa mobile vans na ito would be the appropriate storage facility or equipment inside these vans para masiguro natin na yung ating bakuna will remain to be potent while inside these vans (We need to study this carefully because the number one consideration in these mobile vans would be the appropriate storage facility or equipment to ensure that our vaccines will remain to be potent while inside these vans)," she added.

Recently, Robredo said that she is planning to convert her office's project called "Swab cab" into vaccine cab in a bid to inoculate more people against COVID-19. She cited that not all eligible vaccine recipients are capable of registering online for the COVID-19 vaccination program.
