Average daily COVID cases in NCR drop below 1,500 -- OCTA Research

The average new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases per day in the National Capital Region (NCR) was further down by 27 percent, based on the OCTA Research Group's latest monitoring report released on Monday, May 17.

OCTA said the average daily new COVID-19 cases in NCR is now at 1,479 for the May 10 to May 16 period.

Over the same period, the reproduction number in the NCR was 0.57 while the positivity rate decreased to 11 percent.

Meanwhile, the average daily attack rate (ADAR) in NCR is still at high risk at 10.71 per 100,000 population.

The Department of Health (DOH) considers ADAR above 10 as high-risk while an ADAR below 10 is classified as moderate risk.

Seven local government units (LGUs) are now classified as moderate risk based on the DOH guidelines. These are Navotas, Malabon, Manila, Taguig, Caloocan, Pasay, and Muntinlupa.

COVID-19 UPDATE (OCTA)

OCTA's report also showed that the health care utilization rate in the NCR as of May 15 was 45 percent, with an ICU or intensive care unit occupancy of 57 percent.

Sixty percent utilization is considered by the DOH as "safe."

In terms of HCUR, 14 LGUs are classified as safe. These are Navotas (20 percent), Mandaluyong (26 percent), Malabon (27 percent), Pasay (32 percent), Caloocan (33 percent), Parañaque (36 percent), Manila (39 percent), Taguig (39 percent), Marikina (42 percent), Muntinlupa (43 percent), Pateros (50 percent), San Juan (52 percent), Las Piñas (53 percent), and Pasig (58 percent).

Due to significant improvements in the NCR, the NCR Plus bubble, consisting of Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan, has been placed under less strict general community quarantine (GCQ) "with heightened restrictions" until May 31.

Meanwhile, OCTA Research has expressed alarm over "spikes" in COVID-19 cases in other parts of the country, particularly Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
