Robredo explains change of residency from Naga City to Magarao, CamSur

Vice President Leni Robredo needed to move her residency from her hometown of Naga City to the nearby Barangay Carangcang in Magarao, Camarines Sur not because of her political plans, but because of the properties left to them by her parents.

When her mother, Salvacion Gerona, died last year before the coronavirus pandemic, that left her and her siblings some properties outside of Naga City.

However, these properties were very far from Naga, so she “overruled” her siblings and decided to build a family home in the nearby municipality of Magarao, which is just eight kilometers from Naga City.

“I asked permission from them to find a nearer property. I found one. We started our plan last year,” Robredo said in Filipino during her weekly radio show.

Anyone who knows the vice president well is aware that all her siblings are working overseas, so it is left to her to decide what to do with their parents’ properties.

When their mother passed away, Robredo shared that one of their plans was to build a home, which has to be put on hold because of the COVID-19 lockdown.

The lady official clarified that the move to Magarao wasn’t because she plans to run as governor of Camarines Sur. Naga residents cannot vote and run for a local post outside the city.

Robredo said that she hasn’t moved her voter’s registration since there’s no decision yet for the May 2022 polls.

There were rumors that Robredo’s recent move was to prepare for her run as governor. Even former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV hinted this as the vice president will not seek the presidency next year.

However, Robredo maintained that she hasn’t made a decision yet on her political plans. She also stressed that her options remain open as for her seeking a national or local position.
