PITX, Parañaque gov't mull construction of drive thru COVID-19 vaccination facility

The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is discussing with the local government of Parañaque a plan to produce a vaccination facility at the country's first landport.

PITX Corporate Affairs and Government Relations Head Jason Salvador said during a forum at the PITX that the intended vaccination center could be put up before the month ends.

Salvador said they have a spacious third floor at the terminal which could serve the purpose of a drive-thru vaccination facility.

The main terminal is composed of three levels, with the ground floor functioning as the Departure bay for buses, jeepneys, and taxis while the second floor will be the Bus Arrival bay. Situated on the third floor is the private parking for cars, and the connection to the LRT-1 extension project.

Currently, Parañaque City has vaccination centers at the Paranaque National High School Main, San Antonio Gymnasium, Barangay Don Bosco where the Mental Health Facilty and a City Health Office is located, and one at the Ayala Mall.

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez has mentioned before that the city government will add more centers should the need arise. The city is looking to inoculate 5,400 residents a day in June once a steady supply of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines becomes available to reach about 150,000 a month.

He added that in a span of six months, they will reach 900,000 including the second dose.

The city needs to vaccinate 70 percent of its 725,000 residents which is equivalent to half a million people to achieve herd immunity.
