Heat index values in 16 areas hit 'dangerous' level

Several parts of the country continued to sizzle as heat index values in 16 areas reached dangerous level on Saturday, May 15.

The heat index is the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

The following stations recorded the highest heat index values on Saturday, based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Sangley Point, Cavite (47 degrees Celsius, 2 p.m.)

Masbate City, Masbate (46°C, 2 p.m.)

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (46°C, 2 p.m.)

Aparri, Cagayan (45°C, 11 a.m.)

Dagupan City, Pangasinan (45°C, 11 a.m.)

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (45°C, 11 a.m.)

NAIA, Pasay City (44°C, 2 p.m.)

Ambulong, Batangas (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Clark Airport, Pampanga (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Iba, Zambales (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Catbalogan, Western Samar (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Sinait, Ilocos Sur (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Davao City, Davao del Sur (41°C, 12 p.m.)

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (41°C, 2 p.m.)

A heat index between 41℃ and 54℃ is under what the PAGASA considers as "danger" level due to the high likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

The highest heat index so far this year was recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on May 14 at 53℃.
