Buses under free ride program being paid weekly — operators

The Mega Manila Consortium Corporation (MMCC) has belied claims that its bus firms on the EDSA Carousel Route participating in the government's free ride program have limited their operations over issues of non-payment.

"Our bus units that are operating to provide free rides on the EDSA Busway are being paid weekly by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)," Rene Mapili of MMCC said in a statement.

According to Mapili, the LTFRB has created an information center where bus operators under the MMCC can check the status of their payouts.

Mapili also clarified reports that the long line of passengers waiting for the free rides is not because of the buses refusing to operate but because of the limited passenger capacity being imposed amid the pandemic.

The MMCC official added that there is also an increase in the demand of passengers including many MRT-3 commuters who want to avail of the free service program.

"It must be noted that buses operating on the EDSA Busway offer free bus rides to augment the limited passenger capacity operations of the MRT-3," Mapili explained.

To cater to the demand, the consortium's member operators on the EDSA Carousel assured to deploy more buses, especially during peak hours, to serve the public.
