Truck ban back starting next week, says MMDA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is bringing back the truck ban next week to go with the return of the metropolis to the general community quarantine (GCQ) status.

"In view of the classification in the National Capital Region (NCR), the shall resume the implementation of its truck ban policy on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila starting May 17, 2021," the agency said in an advisory Friday, May 14.

Under the MMDA’s existing truck ban policy, trucks are banned from traversing along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila managed by the MMDA, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The rule is in effect from Monday to Saturday.

"A total truck ban is enforced along EDSA, from Magallanes Interchange in Makati City to North Avenue in Quezon City, 24 hours from Monday to Sunday," the advisory further read.

The MMDA noted that trucks carrying perishable and agricultural foodstuffs are exempted from the ban.

The NCR or Metro Manila, along with the nearby provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite—collectively known as NCR-plus—will be placed under GCQ with "heightened restrictions" from May 15 to 30.

The previous classification in the area was the stricter modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
