Record heat continues: 53°C heat index registered in Dagupan City

The heat index in Dagupan City, Pangasinan soared to 53 degrees Celsius (°C) at around 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14, the highest heat index in the country so far in 2021.

Heat index is the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

The following stations recorded the highest heat index values on Friday, based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Dagupan City, Pangasinan (53°C, 2 p.m.)

Sangley Point, Cavite (47°C, 2 p.m.)

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (44°C, 2 p.m.)

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (44°C, 2 p.m.)

Ambulong, Batangas (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Masbate City, Masbate (43°C, 1 p.m.)

Clark Airport, Pampanga (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (41°C, 2 p.m.)

Casiguran, Aurora (41°C, 2 p.m.)

NAIA, Pasay City (41°C, 2 p.m.)

Roxas City, Capiz (41°C, 2 p.m.)

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (41°C, 11 a.m.)

A heat index between 41℃ and 54℃ is under what the PAGASA considers as "danger" level due to the high likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

This weekend, warm and humid weather conditions will prevail over Luzon and most parts of Visayas due to the easterlies.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area (LPA), which was formerly tropical depression "Crising" may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, Soccsksargen, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands in the next 24 hours.

The LPA was in the vicinity of Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur at around 3 p.m.

PAGASA warned against possible floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.
