QC gov't records more COVID cases thru intensified testing and contact tracing

The local government of Quezon City has identified more COVID-19 cases after ramped up testing efforts.

According to Mayor Joy Belmonte, the intensified effort in testing and contact tracing led to enlistment of more active cases in the city.

“Over the past weeks, our numbers are on a downward trend but the decrease has been slow.

While we are treating and isolating confirmed cases in order to mitigate the spread, we also expanded our testing which determines not just symptomatic patients but also asymptomatic ones,” Mayor Belmonte said.

The city mayor said ramping up the testing and contact tracing in the city is a more effective way to identify and isolate the residents infected with the virus.

The city employs rapid antigen tests and reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests to identify positive cases.

Two mobile-testing trucks are used in lockdown areas and other far-flung barangays.

The city conducts around 3,026 tests per day, and the new machines donated by the Temasek

Foundation also helped increase tests up to 1,000.

As of Thursday (May 13), the city has 4,454 active COVID cases.
