Twenty local fishermen were apprehended by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing activities in Cuyo, Palawan, it said on Wednesday, May 12.

The PCG said its personnel were conducting a maritime patrol when it accosted the fishermen aboard fishing boat "FB Nathan" approximately 5.9 miles northwest off Barangay Lubid Island.
The identities of the fishermen were not disclosed but the PCG said their boat is owned and operated by YYN Fishing Corporation which is based in Jaro, Iloilo City.

According to the PCG, the fishermen were operating within the municipal waters of Cuyo without appropriate permits, and were fishing within 10 kilometers from the shoreline of the said town in violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 2016 – 1564 and Municipal Ordinance No. 2015 – 1520, respectively.
The PCG said that YYN Fishing Corporation paid P100,000 in fines for the release of the apprehended fishing vessel and the fishermen.
