Mayor Aguilar: It's difficult to balance health and economy

Las Pinas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar said Friday that while it is difficult to strike a balance between the people's health and keeping the economy going, she still welcomes President Duterte's decision to place Metro Manila and nearby provinces under a "heightened" General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from May 15 to 31.

Las Pinas City Public Information chief Paul San Miguel said Mayor Aguilar believes that placing the National Capital Region Plus (NCR and the provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan) under heightened GCQ will help the business sector slowly recover from their losses.

Aguilar said millions of Filipinos have already lost their jobs and there is already a need to slowly open the economy to feed their families.

She said the measures being imposed by the Inter-Agency Task Force (ITAF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) must be strictly followed.

Aguilar urged residents to continue following the basic health protocols like the wearing of face masks, face shields, and observing physical distancing being imposed by the city government.

She said that only 18 to 65 years old are allowed to go out of their residences and must observe the 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew hours.

She said more police will be deployed to ensure that restrictions in some businesses like indoor dining or 20 percent of the venue are strictly followed.
