LOOK: Could this be the original national costume of Rabiya Mateo for 69th Miss Universe Competition?

A photo of the supposedly original design of the national costume of Miss Philippines Rabiya Mateo made the rounds of social media moments after the national costume show of the 69th Miss Universe Competition was presented in Hollywood, Florida last May 14.

The picture which was reportedly shot when avant-garde Filipino fashion designer Rocky Gathercole was still alive.Gathercole was found dead in his Quezon City home in March.

In the original design of the national costume, there was a head piece to complete the ensemble of the designer.

But during the national competition, Rabiya did not wear any headpiece and she just kept her hair wavy and flowing.

The Ilongga beauty queen received mixed reviews for her Philippine-flag inspired national costume.

After the show, Rabiya cried and apologized when she felt some pageant fans got disappointed with her performance.

On Instagram May 14, Rabiya wrote: "Tonight was a good night. I had fun. That’s what really matters."

Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa told Rabiya: :"You did so well, and we are so proud of you baby girl!! Bring home the crown!"

The grand finals of the 69th Miss Universe Competition will be held in Hollywood, Florida on May 16 (May 17 in Manila).
