NDRRMC tells provinces in 'Crising's' path to prepare for heavy rains

The provinces on the expected path of tropical depression "Crising" must brace for heavy rains ahead of the weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday, May 13.

"Areas of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte will experience moderate to heavy rains today and tomorrow (Friday, May 14) morning due to TD Crising, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said," read the advisory from the NDRRMC.

"Residents of the said provinces are advised to prepare for possible flooding and rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially those areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards," it added.

The council prodded the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) councils, local government units (LGUs), and residents of these areas to make the necessary precautions.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been raised over Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao City.

Crising is expected to make landfall over the Surigao del Sur-Davao Oriental area between Thursday night and early morning Friday. It will remain as a tropical depression prior to its landfall.

The storm is expected to weaken within the next 36 to 48 hours, the state weather bureau said. Crising is the third tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.
