LOOK: Another 15,000 doses of Sputnik V arrive in PH

The second batch of Sputnik V vaccines from Russian manufacturer Gamaleya Research Institute arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday night, May 12.

The Qatar Airways flight that carried the jabs touched down on the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 at 9:56 p.m.

Like the first batch of Sputnik V that was delivered to the country on May 1, the second batch was also composed of 15,000 doses.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., vaccine czar and chief of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19, earlier said that the Philippine government secured 10 million doses of Sputnik V from Gamaleya. The contract may be expanded up to 20 million doses, he said.

Galvez is banking on the steady delivery of Sputnik V and the other foreigner-made vaccines in the coming weeks so that the national government could ramp up the inoculation of Filipinos from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) toward its goal of achieving herd immunity.
