Dagupan City sizzles with 48°C heat index

Several areas across the country continues to record heat index values within the danger level on Thursday, May 13.

Dagupan City in Pangasinan still topped the list with a heat index value of 48 degrees Celsius (°C) felt at around 2 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Based on the monitoring of PAGASA, the following weather stations recorded the highest heat index values on Thursday.

Sangley Point, Cavite (45°C, 2 p.m.)

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (44°C, 2 p.m.)

Iba, Zambales (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Cotabato City, Maguindanao (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Dipolog, Zambonga del Norte (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Aparri, Cagayan (41°C, 11 a.m.)

Catbalogan, Western Samar, (41°C, 2 p.m.)

Tacloban City, Leyte (41°C, 2 p.m.)

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte (41°C, 1 p.m.)

PAGASA defines heat index as a human discomfort index that gives the “apparent” temperature or what a human perceives or feels as the temperature affects the body.

It is at least three to four degrees Celsius higher than the actual air temperature.

A heat index between 41℃ and 54℃ is under what the PAGASA considers as “danger” level due to the high likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
